Description
Switchgrass
Switchgrass is a tall, sod forming perennial native grass that is found in much of the United States, except for the west coast. This warm season native specie can reach mature heights to six feet.
BLACKWELL
- Most commonly used variety in the High Plains Regions of the Great Plains
- Used in irrigated pastures and sandhill rangeland
- Very good forage quality
- Grows well on sandy ranges and lowland sites
- Thrives best with 15 to 20 inches of annual precipitation
CAVE IN ROCK
- Late maturing variety
- Improved rust resistance
- Grows 3 to 6 feet tall depending varying climates and soil conditions
- Very good low-land variety
- Drought tolerant and adapts well to a wide range of climatic conditions
FORESTBURG
- Best suited to light or medium-textured soils
- Tolerates moderately saline or alkaline soils
- Good heat and drought tolerance
NEBRASKA 28
- Early maturing strain representative of Nebraska sandhill strains
- Adapts well to varying soil types
- Very good for use in pastures and conservation areas
- Susceptible to rust in areas with long growing seasons
