Description
Dotted gayfeather is native to the central United States and Canada where its rapid taproot development digs deep into the upland prairie it inhabits. This perennial grows 1-2 feet in height and is topped with bright purple flowers that slowly open from the top down, allowing it to stay in bloom for long periods of time from August-September. Found growing in dry soils, it prefers full sun but is tolerant of shade as well.
