Plains Sunflower, also known as Prairie Sunflower, is commonly found growing in the dry sandy soils of the Midwest United States although it can be found through most of the country. Growing from 3-5 feet tall, it is topped with bright yellow flowers from June-September. The flowers are an excellent source for many pollinating insects and the seeds are consumed by many types of birds and small mammals.
