Ratibida peduncularis (Mexican Hat) and Ratibida columnifera (Upright Cone Flower) are commonly mistaken for one another. Both flowers can range from red to yellow and can be found in the same habitats. Mexican Hat, Ratibida peduncularis, can be distinguished by the way the leaves stay concentrated to the base of the plant. Upright Coneflower generally produces leaves all the way up the stem to the flower head.
