Description

A perennial large growing member of the salidago genus, giant goldenrod, also referred to as late goldenrod, can reach heights of up to 7 feet. It is found growing across most of the United States and Canada in seasonally moist or wet, open areas of full or partial sunlight. The hairless stems of this species make it identifiable compared to other tall goldenrod species. The bright yellow flowers appear late in the year from August-October. This plant spreads through rhizomes and can form large colonies, if allowed. Many species of pollinators frequent this species when in bloom and it is an important plant for migrating butterflies.
