Description

Cowpeas are a summer annual legume that can provide high protein summer hay or pasture. Cowpeas are similar to soybeans, but are more tolerant of heat and drought, with softer stems and better regrowth after grazing. Cowpeas are better at fixing nitrogen than soybeans. Cowpeas are best planted after soil temperature rises above 60 F in spring, at a pure stand rate of 40 lb per acre and an optimum depth of around 1 inch.
