A short lived perennial member of the mint family, Catnip is known for the reaction that it causes to members of the feline family. Nepetalactone is secreted by the plant and when inhaled, causes almost uncontrolled behaviors such as rolling on the ground, pawing, licking and rubbing the plant. Growing from 2-3 feet in height, it is found growing in full to partial sun of upland, well drained soils across North America. Its white blossoms can be seen in bloom for a long period of time from June-September.
