Beggars Tick, also known as Devils Beggartick, is an annual that grows well in poorly drained soils such as road ditches, marshes, moist prairies and stream banks. It establishes easily in disturbed areas, especially areas that are disturbed with flooding. Blooming from August-October the yellow flowers give way to numerous hooked seeds that stick to passing animals or clothing for dispersal. The seeds are highly nutritious and utilized by many game birds and small mammals for food. It grows best in full sun but will tolerate some shade. Under ideal conditions it will grow 3-5 feet in height and can be found distributed across the entire United States.
