Chicory, a perennial cool season herb, is a forage crop that has large, dandelion-like leaves and is high in nutritional value. The chicory plant's taproot allows it to tolerate drought conditions very well, and will remain green throughout the summer. It is best planted in the spring to avoid winterkill of young plants.
Deer will show preference to chicory over other crops. Chicory works best in a deer food plot situation when planted in a mixture with clovers and other cool season forages.
